ButterFly started of as a Master graduation project from Lammert Postma. After been graduated Lammert Postma went on developing the ButterFly application. The goal of ButterFly is to develop new tools to interact with hypertext.

Internet isn't about browsing, it's about reading and writing hypertext.

In the ongoing evolution of the web the digital word becomes more and more important in our social and business life. Especially for professional users like students and academics the internet is an important source to look up information. But when we want to read an online article we walk against the limitation of today’s browsers. They are still build for browsing the content instead of reading or writing the content. You can only scroll up and down, click on pre-made hyperlinks or text-search. Even a book gives us more interaction with the text than today’s webbrowser.

Our concept of the hypertext has to change to see its full potential. ButterFly is a step in this direction. By giving the user tools to read and write hypertext. It helps the user to look up information but also gives the possibility to enrich the current webpage with new content or hyperlinks to other resources on the web.

Goal
The development of new tools that increases the interaction with hypertext and expands the current browsing experience.
